Renewable Hydrogen and Fuel Cells are bursting into the world of Container Cranes. RTG Cranes are a major producer of the CO2 emissions in Container Terminals while being one of the main energy consumer elements. They are thus, the main emitters of environmental pollution in the port Terminal environment. PACECO MOMENTUM and JALVASUB Engineering are investing joint efforts in R&D to introduce this disruptive and sustainable technology into the cargo handling industry. We are supported by the Ports 4.0. Fund, belonging to Puertos del Estado (Spanish Port System) for our e-H2 RTG project, which aims at ports decarbonization and sustainability of the container handling industry through Renewable Hydrogen Technologies. Our common aim is that, for the first time, RTG-Transtainer® cranes shall be propelled in a totally ecological way and through Zero Emission of CO2, GHG gases and polluting particles. Power generation based on Renewable Hydrogen is more efficient, cleaner, does not generate pollutant emissions into the atmosphere, and benefits of a green fuel that is most essential for Ports Decarbonization.

PACECO GROUP's

response to the

Ecological Transition

and Decarbonisation

of the Port Industry

PACECO Group has always advocated for emission reduction and released a Hybrid RTG already in 2009, with a smaller diesel engine and adding lithium-ion batteries for additional power. Recently, PACECO Group has gone a step further in its ongoing commitment to sustainability and launched the NZE Transtainer RTG, a Near Zero Emission crane with a small diesel engine that will be easily able to be replaced by a Zero-Emission Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Module in a near future. In fact, a project is currently going on to demonstrate a local production and consumption Hydrogen Model at the PORT OF LA, U.S.A. aiming for the transition to Fuel Cell of Port Cargo Handling Machinery and dredge trucks. Mitsui E&S Machinery Co., Ltd. (MES-M) and its US subsidiary, PACECO® Corp. (PACECO), received a grant from the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) for a Demonstration Project of a Commercially Feasible Hydrogen Fuel Model at the Port of Los Angeles. This grant, awarded in December 2021, is part of an overall project encompassing a demonstration of the Hydrogen Supply Chain, from local production of Clean Hydrogen to the consumption point of port Container Handling Equipment and dredge trucks powered by Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technology. This project will be executed in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho, Toyota Tsusho America, Inc., Hino Motor Manufacturing, and Hino Motor Manufacturing USA. The anticipated project term is from February 2022 to March 2026.
