Miguel Soler Jaufer, CEO of PACECO MOMENTUM, offered an eminently practical approach on the subject by presenting a Case Study on the Digitalisation and Digital Transformation of PortMiami Crane Operations. Above all, some light was put upon the question on what it takes to evolve from an analogue environment to a digitised and digitalised terminal.
In fact, Data Awareness and an improvement in Data Scope & Quality speak for themselves when it comes to assess and rank the performance of a terminal: this is something PortMiami has been able to experience after they started their digitalisation process. When considering the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence Container Port Performance Index 2021, a striking fact does not leave any room for doubt: PortMiami worked its way up in the Statistical Approach from rank 200 in 2020 to rank 39 in 2021 and in the Administrative approach from rank 114 in 2020 to rank 29 in 2021. Digitalisation has pushed PortMiami within a year to the second most efficient port in North America.
But, due to the fact that in the case of PortMiami the digitalisation process is already a reality, thanks to the PACECO Spyder Digitalisation Software, further digitalisation levels are striven for: a further evolution towards a digitally transformed business (akin to an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)) that will be able to cope with the challenges and chances of digital transformation is the next target.
