These cranes are part of a modernization and increase capacity project for the terminal to support operations up to 24,000 TEU vessels with a width of 25 containers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">__The Portainer® cranes are a larger version of the existing cranes at ITS,__ featuring a mono-box Boom with an outreach of 230 feet and lifting capacity of 175 feet over the seaside rail, and will be the largest STS cranes at ITS terminal. The cranes will be built with the latest technology for increased safety and optimal productivity including operator assist system, and laser and camera systems for anti-collision. These cranes will immediately improve production keeping the same safety standard as their predecessor that are still operating at ITS. ITS will have 15 PACECO-MITSUI Portainer® cranes when these 5 cranes are delivered.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">ITS, a leader in implementing low emission technologies, has ordered 5 NZE Model (Near Zero Emission)&nbsp;Hybrid Transtainer® RTGs, the latest generation of Hybrid RTGs offered by PACECO. These cranes feature a Small Diesel-Generator to charge the Large Battery Bank, the main energy source of these RTGs. The NZE model RTG reduces the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by approximately 70% compared to conventional RTGs and has been designed to easily convert to a Zero Emission RTG by replacing the Diesel-Generator with a Fuel Cell Power Module, making the NZE Model RTG future proof with the ability to comply with Year 2030 Zero Emission goals set by the port of Los Angeles and port of Long Beach.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">“Customers value the lower life cycle cost and reliable performance of PACECO-MITSUI cranes and this order reflects it” commented Soshi Sato, president of PACECO.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The cranes will be delivered from Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery Co. Ltd. (Oita, Japan) in two shipments, to be put into operation early 2023.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Miguel Soler Jaufer, CEO of PACECO MOMENTUM, offered an eminently practical approach on the subject by presenting a Case Study on the Digitalisation and Digital Transformation of PortMiami Crane Operations. Above all, some light was put upon the question on what it takes to evolve from an analogue environment to a digitised and digitalised terminal.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In fact, Data Awareness and an improvement in Data Scope &amp; Quality speak for themselves when it comes to assess and rank the performance of a terminal: this is something PortMiami has been able to experience after they started their digitalisation process. When considering the World Bank and S&amp;P Global Market Intelligence Container Port Performance Index 2021, a striking fact does not leave any room for doubt: PortMiami worked its way up in the Statistical Approach from rank 200 in 2020 to rank 39 in 2021 and in the Administrative approach from rank 114 in 2020 to rank 29 in 2021. Digitalisation has pushed PortMiami within a year to the second most efficient port in North America.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But, due to the fact that in the case of PortMiami the digitalisation process is already a reality, thanks to the PACECO Spyder Digitalisation Software, further digitalisation levels are striven for: a further evolution towards a digitally transformed business (akin to an Artificial Neural Network (ANN)) that will be able to cope with the challenges and chances of digital transformation is the next target. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Troy Collard, General Manager of PACECO Corp. reported on the practical approach PACECO GROUP is applying with regard to their compromise to settle up a roadmap to Zero Emissions &amp; Autonomous RTG Transtainer®. The concept of adding hydrogen energy source, allows fuel sources to remain diversified – terminals not relying on one source of energy (i.e., electricity) as well as it prepares terminals for the Zero Emission Goals set in USA for 2030.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The project in which Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery Co., Ltd. (MES-M) and&nbsp;<a href="https://pacecocorp.com/">PACECO® Corp.</a>&nbsp;(<a href="https://pacecocorp.com/">PACECO</a>) are involved is entitled &#8220;Demonstration project for the commercialization of the port hydrogen model at the Port of Los Angeles in North America&#8221; and is embedded in a local production and consumption hydrogen model aiming for the transition to Fuel Cell of port cargo handling machinery and drayage trucks. The project is partially funded by a grant from NEDO, the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization , an independent administrative agency governed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, of the Japanese government. The project implementation schedule is from February 2022 to March 2027.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The following milestones are expected to be fulfilled: • NZE (Near Zero Emission) RTG design verified and in production from 2021. This Near Zero emission crane with a small Diesel Engine will be easily able to be replaced by a Z<strong>ero Emission Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power&nbsp;</strong>Module&nbsp;power source in a near future • Testing of FC complete by March 2023 and design released to production • New H2-ZE RTG delivered to a terminal in the Port of Los Angeles in ~Q2 2024 for testing and data collection over 4 years per the NEDO grant requirements</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The targeted Success Criteria is that the RTG can run for two consecutive shifts (16 hours) before refilling hydrogen tanks and on an operational level that the RTG performs equivalent to a conventional RTG.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As part of the final expansion phase of the Yilport Gävle terminal, PACECO GROUP (Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery, PACECO Corp. and PACECO MOMENTUM) has recently delivered three highly efficient and environmentally friendly STS Portainer® cranes. The state-of-the-art cranes, manufactured at Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery Oita (Japan) facility, were delivered fully erected to Yilport Gävle Container Terminal (Sweden).</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On arrival at the Gävle Terminal, a large technical and service team from PACECO MOMENTUM and Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery took care of the unloading operations of the three cranes, as well as of the electrical connections and commissioning. Finally, the cranes were handed over by Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery with the firm conviction to contribute with their high- quality products and services to increase the competitiveness of the terminal.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">PACECO MOMENTUM has been selected by the Ports 4.0 Fund, belonging to Puertos del Estado (Spanish Port System), to receive a grant to support the e-H2 RTG project, which aims at the decarbonization of ports and the sustainability of the container handling industry through renewable hydrogen technologies. The project is part of the first call in the Pre-commercial category of the Ports 4.0 Fund, which represents the innovation model adopted by Puertos del Estado and the Spanish Port Authorities to attract, support and facilitate the application of talent and entrepreneurship to the Spanish public and private logistics-port sector in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The e-H2 RTG project comprises the design, validation and demonstration in a Spanish terminal of a pre-commercial prototype RTG crane, manufactured by PACECO, with an electrical generation system (HYCOGEN-HFCT), based on the innovative ULPHE &#8211; PEM fuel cell technology developed by JALVASUB Engineering which, in turn, supplies the Ministry of Defense, in a joint venture with the CIDAUT Foundation, in its MEDUSA project for the S-80 Submarine.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">RTG cranes are one of the main producers of CO2 emissions in container terminals, as well as being important energy consumers. For this reason, PACECO MOMENTUM and JALVASUB Engineering have joined forces to invest joint efforts in R+D+i with the aim of introducing the disruptive high-efficiency ULPHE &#8211; PEM fuel cell technology in the cargo handling sector.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The common goal is that, for the first time, RTG-Transtainer® cranes will be powered in a totally environmentally friendly way and with zero CO2, GHG and particulate pollutant emissions. Power generation based on renewable hydrogen is more efficient, cleaner, does not generate polluting emissions into the atmosphere, benefits from a green fuel that is essential for the decarbonization of ports and, in addition, generates a dramatic reduction in noise pollution.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The implementation of this project will lay the foundations for the implementation of a green culture based on H2 in container terminals. This would mean nothing less than the elimination of a substantial part of CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. The aim is to position Spain as a benchmark for this green technology at European and world level and to contribute to the development of the implementation of hydrogen in society. In addition, work is already underway on a further development to use ammonia as fuel.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Mitsui E&amp;S Machinery Co., Ltd. (MES-M) and its US subsidiary,&nbsp;<a href="https://pacecocorp.com/">PACECO® Corp.</a>&nbsp;(<a href="https://pacecocorp.com/">PACECO</a>), were awarded a grant by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) entitled “Demonstration project for the commercialization of the port hydrogen model at the Port of Los Angeles in North America.” This grant, awarded in December 2021, is part of an overall project encompassing a demonstration of the hydrogen supply chain, from local production of clean hydrogen to the consumption point of port container handling equipment and drayage trucks powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology. This project will be executed in collaboration with Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Toyota Tsusho America, Inc., Hino Motors, Ltd., and Hino Motor Manufacturing U.S.A., Inc. The anticipated project term is from February 2022 to March 2026.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This model goes alongside with the LA Port Authority and the Long Beach Port Authority, who, guided by their Green Port policies, have established a Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) to achieve zero gas emissions from port equipment by 2030.&nbsp;Among the container handling equipment, currently a rubber-tired-gantry (RTG) crane is powered by a large diesel engine genset, a significant contributor to gas emissions.&nbsp;Switching</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">to a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell power source will significantly contribute to reduced emissions in the port.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this sense, in September 2021 MES-M initiated a hydrogen fuel cell powered zero emission (ZE) Transtainer RTG development project funded by a grant from NEDO titled “Collaborative Industry-Academia-Government R&amp;D Project for Solving Common Challenges Toward Dramatically Expanded Use of Fuel Cells and Related Equipment, theme Ⅲ, Technology Development for Diversifying Fuel Cell Use.”&nbsp; As part of the overall project, the ZE Transtainer RTG will be delivered to a terminal in the Port of Los Angeles for feasibility testing in actual operation from 2Q 2024. This will be the world’s first demonstration to operate hydrogen fuel cell powered cargo handling equipment including the ZE Transtainer crane, and drayage trucks, fueled by local clean hydrogen production and supply facilities. The demonstration will span three years.</p>



<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As a pioneer of zero emission Transtainer RTGs, proven through this demonstration project, we will work with ports and terminal operators to decarbonize their yard cranes. PACECO-Mitsui NZE (near-zero-emission) Transtainer RTGs are commercially available today and designed with a small diesel engine genset that can be easily converted to hydrogen power as hydrogen infrastructure expands to ports.</p>
